Wankan oder Ōkan (japanisch ηŽ‹ε† , β€žKΓΆnigskroneβ€œ)cite-ref-1[Anm. 1] ist eine Kata – also ein stilisierter Kampf gegen imaginΓ€re Gegner – im Karate. Sie wurde von Yoshitaka Funakoshi ins Shōtōkan-Karate eingefΓΌhrt und ist mit 16 Bewegungen die kΓΌrzeste Kata dieser Stilrichtung.

Ihr Ursprung liegt im Tomari-Te (Shōrin-Schule), einem VorlΓ€ufer des modernen Karate aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Gichin Funakoshi nannte sie Matsukaze (松钨, β€žPinienwindβ€œ) sowie Hito (ι£›ι›², β€žFlugwolkeβ€œ). In dieser Kata wird nur ein Kiai gesetzt. Als besondere oder kΓΆnigliche Technik gilt Kōkō Uke (θ™Žε£ε—γ‘, β€žTigermaulabwehrβ€œ), die in einem Kniehebelwurf endet. Wankan wird im Shōrin-ryΕ«, Shōtōkai, Shōtōkan, und Matsubayashi-RyΕ« geΓΌbt.
